Mike Flannery didn't waist time to get the lead and win his fourth race of the season at the Pomfret Speedway.
At the start of the race it was Daniel Fresh on the pole with kart # 45 and Dylan Menditto lined up along side in kart # 27. As the green flag waved it was Fresh to get the jump on the field and lead them into turn number one. The green didn't stay out long as Menditto in the Darren's Electric machine spun entering turn number three.
The field would go to a complete restart and Fresh would get the jump again and take the lead over Flannery who took second and Menditto who fell to third. Fresh and Flannery would start to pull away from the field leaving Menditto to battle for third with Kendall Segar in kart # 3. As the field headed down the back straightaway on lap seven Flannery would dive low under Fresh and took the lead. Fresh wouldn't give up and stayed right on the rear bumper of Flannery until the half waypoint when he reclaimed the lead. Menditto still holds third over Segar in the Segar Racing entry. Flannery didn't waist time as with five laps to go decided to take back the lead in his DMK Construction machine. Fresh would stay right behind him in his Fresh Racing machine. The field would finish this way as Flannery took the win followed by Fresh, Menditto and Segar. The tiger sprints have come a long way in their first season here at the Pomfret Speedway and all four kart today put on an awesome show. We would also like to add that two of the drivers are kids of Stafford Motor Speedway drivers. Dylan Menditto is the son of SK Modified driver Darren Menditto and Kendall Segar is the daughter of former Pro Stock driver JR Segar Both these kids have done a great job continuing in their parents footsteps.
Tom Pokorny had been close on several different times to take a victory and finally put it all together today in his Cindy Burdick owned Ted Christopher's M&T Enterprises sponsored machine to take down his first ever victory.
When the field came down for the start it was Pokorny on the pole in his kart # 82 and Ben Rund started along side in kart # 64. Pokorny got the jump and led the field down into turn number one. He would lead the first three laps until the caution waved on lap three when Rund tangled in the front stretch with Doug Anderson in kart # 38.
On the restart it was Pokorny getting the jump again over Matt Combs in kart # 5 and Ed Baggot in kart # 15.
Pokorny started to pull away from the field but the man on the move was Ben Rund who was coming from the rear of the field in his Rund racing machine. Rund would take second on lap eight when Combs battling with Baggot would drift high and open the door for both Rund and Baggot to motor on by. The Caution flag would wave on lap 10 when Ed Cochran in kart # 39 spun off of turn number four. This would bunch the field back up and take away the big lead that Pokorny had built up. On the restart Pokorny got the jump again followed by Baggot in his Pro Kart Chassis machine and Combs in the Combs racing machine. Rund would get a bad start and drop to fourth. Three laps later Rund would take third and set his sights on Baggot. Time would run out and as the checkered flag waved it was Pokorny followed by Baggot and Rund who would wind up third.
Pokorny was Quick to thank his sponsor Ted Christopher for his support and Tom Abele and Brian Goley for their help with the Chassis.
The kart will be back in action in two weeks as we head into our biggest race of the season at the Woodstock Fair in Woodstock CT. We will be racing for four days at the fair which is held on Labor Day weekend. We hope to see everyone at the fair. It's a great way to spend the day and check out the future stars of racing.
